Wednesday

Wednesday (5/20):

I have realized that I need to blog or at least write things down because I forget things far too quickly. So, this is what I did Wednesday...

Since Tuesday was my sick day, I had to miss going to the hospital and going into surgery with Dr. Keir. You can't imagine how bummed I was Tuesday. Missing surgery (for me) is like not eating chocolate for a whole year. Its just painful to know that I had the opportunity, but that I could not be there because I was sick with some lame bacteria or virus or both.

Anyways, Wednesday I still had a sore throat & intestinal issues, but I was determined to make it to the hospital. The Roush's left Wednesday morning, so I also wanted to say good-bye to them. Dr. Roush gave a lecture on cardiomyopathy (I can't spell) and heart failure. It was very interesting. I just LOVE the way Dr. Roush talks. Hysterical. After lecture (7:30-8:30am), I said good-bye to Alec, Jean-Marie, Elisa & Dr. Roush. I will miss you guys!!!

I followed Dr. Keir and the residents, so I got to hear Dr. Keir's lecture on hirneas. I love Dr. Keir's lectures, because usually they don't fly too far over my head. I will admit, that when they got into discussing certain ligaments, etc. I got lost, because I am not THAT familiar with the human body. Most of the lecture had to do with a diagram, so I can't very well replicate that. But, I did learn a few terms such as incarcerated. Dr. Keir is an excellent illustrator [ ;-) ] so my learning was greatly enhanced by drawings on a white-board.

After lecture, we went on rounds, which was fun....everything is fun for me. I wasn't really sure if my stomach was going to handle rounds because I was sick on Tuesday, but with God's grace I made it...There are some disgusting things to be seen on rounds. Lots of infections. Lots of puss...So we went through the surgery ward, peds., medicale and maternity.

After maternity, it was OR time!!! My favorite. Seriously. I love it!!! Unfortunately, I didnt write all the surgeries down after I got home like I usually do, so I am a little jumbled...If I recall correctly, I saw was an infertility case, so Jean-Claude and Dr. Keir went in laparoscopically (again, I can't spell). Simultaneously, Loua and Phila (two other residents) had opened the abdomen of another patient to remove a cyst which ended up being attached to the woman's tube...or at least I think that was the conclusion.

After those, I walked to the Kelly's for lunch and then I walked back down to the OR.

After lunch there was a TURP case, and then another case involving a sigmoid (or some other fancy term) colon. This was the same guy from last week...his colon keeps twisting, so he had to get a portion of it taken out. So that section was GIRNORMOUS...absolutely HUGE. So weird, but what else is new....Like I told Dr. Keir, it never ceases to amaze me what can come out of people's bodies.

After that case, I walked back up to the station with Jean-Claude so that I could meet his wife Christine, who is absolutely gorgeous (so, Jean-Claude, if you are reading this, pass that on to her)!!! She is due to have their baby any day now. I told her that she had to have the baby before I leave.

The Kelly' s had staff meeting in the evening, so I babysat the kids after dinner. Nothing eventful occured. Little Emma doesn't like the sound of rain which is only magnified by the metal roof, so that did prove to be an issue. We watched Star Trek and snuggled a bit, so that was fun.

And, I think I went to bed after that. Nope....actually I went to Lisa's and chatted a bit. THEN, I went to bed. And, as usual, I killed a few critters before bed.
