SIEGE OF THE ANTS!!!

Before you read, you must understand that ants are no new thing in Gabon. I have always had a small population of ants in my room. That is just the way it is.

I don't know how to best describe this frightening experience...After dinner guests left I walked into my room to check my email. As I sat at my desk, my feet began to feel attacked by small pin pricks. I assumed they were ants, so I just bent down to smack them off my feet. Having done this, I went back to my computer. At that moment, Emma came in to show me a dress of her's. She brought my attention to the ants that had formed a thick barrier on the threshold of my room. We looked up to find a thick line of them leading to my backpack with was completely covered in ants. They had found my stash of peanuts which had accidentally been left open!!! (My fault, I admit).

Amanda immediately rescued my from this precarious situation. We transferred my backpack to the porch and completely emptied it of everything. My room & backpack were sprayed with heavy, killer ant spray. I took a picture of the ant carcasses in my room.

Lessons learned:
1) Always seal food.
2) Ant bites (even from small ants) hurt tremendously
3) Gabonese ants are vicious and starving

I am SO grateful that I did not discover this by myself and that Amanda graciously rescued me. Now, at every tickle, itch and twitch I am paranoid that I am being eaten alive by ants.

This made for a wonderful 11:30pm adventure!

A few things:
- I'll write more about today's happenings tomorrow, when I have more time
- Don't pay attention to posting times, they are completely wrong

  1. A scripture for today: Isaiah 40:31

    But those who wait on the LORD
    Shall renew their strength;
    They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
    They shall run and not be weary,
    They shall walk and not faint.

  2. Remember when we used to check our beds for bugs like EVERY night? Ha and there was nothing ever there. I dunno, your post reminded me of that for some reason.
